What is a podcast and how do I use it? Print E-mail
So, you've made it here and you're now thinking "Ok, what's a podcast?".  Hopefully, this guide will help you understand what a podcast is and have you listening to A Balanced Life in no time!

What exactly is a podcast?

The easiest way to explain a podcast is this:  It's basically a radio show, distributed over the Internet.  Many times, podcasts are similar to a talk radio show, with a host or hosts talking about a specific subject.  Many podcasts (including this one) even include breaks with music, and sometimes commercials (although, commercials as you know them on radio are rare in the podcasting world).

Almost always, podcasts are completely free to listen to and can be listened to in a variety of ways...which brings us to....

How do I listen to a podcast?

Listening to a podcast is super simple.  Whether you'd rather listen at your computer, in your car, on your iPod (or other mp3 player) - it's totally up to you.  Since a podcast is simply an audio file (like a song), you can listen to it in the same ways you'd listen to music on your computer or iPod.  Here's how it works:

To listen on your computer, there are a couple options.  You can either listen straight from the website, or with a piece of software called a "podcatcher".  Don't get worried about that term, it's not as strange as it sounds.

To listen to our podcast straight from the website, simply click on the "Listen Now" button on the right hand side of every page and find the episode you want.

The other option is to listen via a "podcatcher".  Ever heard of iTunes?  That's the most popular podcatcher out there, and chances are, you've got it on your computer.

To get to the podcast via iTunes, simply click on orange "iTunes 1 Click" button on the Show Info page or RIGHT HERE!   iTunes will automatically check for new episodes of the show everytime you start it.

Pretty simple, eh?
